COGNITIVE SKILL TRAINING

Cognitive Skill training is a scientifically proven, therapeutic learning process by which weak cognitive, perceptual and sensori-integrations skills are drilled to an automatic level making learning and functioning easier in school and in everyday life! Learning to ride a bike or drive a car are examples of automaticity or automatic learning. Unlike when we first were learning how to ride or drive, we can now perform these skills with very little thought or effort. So too is the learning process when student's learning skills are drilled to an automatic level by cognitive skill training.

HOW DOES COGNITIVE SKILL TRAINING WORK?

We assess 26 Cognitive Abilities and 3 Perceptual Areas that are the ROOT CAUSES of most learning and attention problems. We then develop an individualized, Prescriptive Treatment Plan unique to your child's profile. We train the weak skills, and enhance the strong skills through specific activities that are scientifically proven to develop and strengthen the brain and processing skills essential to efficient, independent learning in school - and in life!

Once your child's learning abilities are developed and strengthened, then learning can occur - more quickly and easily! Now your child is developmentally ready to learn! We teach your child and fill in the gaps in achievement in reading, writing and math through sound scientifically proven programs.

Our Training Improves:

*Perception:

Visual and auditory perceptual weaknesses can exist despite perfect vision and hearing acuity. Difficulty paying attention, comprehending, remembering, reading, spelling, written language, handwriting, poor gross and fine motor skills and behavioral issues are a few of the symptoms of weak perceptual skills.

*Cognition:

Well developed cognitive skills as memory, comprehension, and problem solving are essential to moving on to higher levels of learning. These and the other multiple intelligences needed for learning can be developed and strengthened at any age. Learning and academic achievement occur easily with strong cognitive skills.

*Sensorimotor Integration:

This is the least understood and often overlooked area of difficulty. Difficulty with organization, attention following directions written language, handwriting and especially behavioral issues are a few of the symptoms of Sensory Integration Dysfunction. Without sensory integration even gifted students can struggle in school!

Success:

By assessing the learning abilities that are classroom critical and then strengthening the weak ones, students' academic performance is dramatically improved and keeps them in class, breaking the Special Programs cycle. The students connect with the learning process and increase their capacity to remember and apply information, ready to participate and succeed in school and in life.

What Are The Results Of This Training?

  • Many of the symptoms of learning and attention difficulties disappear
  • Need for repetitive tutoring is eliminated
  • Students complete schoolwork more independently
  • Increased ability to stay on task
  • Improved academic performance
  • Enhanced self-esteem and confidence
  • Improved memory, comprehension and retention of skills and content material
  • Students begin to easily take in, remember and use information learned in school
