Mission Statement
After 30 years as a special education teacher and learning disabilities teacher consultant, trainer and advocate in public schools and support agencies, I opened the Center For Learning Enhancement, Inc. in 2002.
Its mission is to support parents in educating their children and overcoming the obstacles to learning that interfere with reaching their potential in life. Through unique, holistic, non-traditional and scientifically proven approaches to cognitive, learning and attention difficulties, underdeveloped skills are improved so that students can think, learn and function effectively in school and in everyday life!
Philosophy
We have all come into this world with a purpose and a potential to meet that goal. Sometimes we need to think "outside the box" to find solutions to problems that hinder us from reaching our potential.
While school and academic achievement play a significant role in a child's growing years, the Center utilizes a holistic approach, looks at the whole child and the impact of their emotions, neuro-physical and psycho-educational development on the learning process.
Most often children struggle in school because they have weak cognitive processing skills such as slow processing speed, memory, attention, visual and auditory processing or logic and reasoning.
Traditional educational programs and tutoring seek to remedy academic lags through accommodations and compensation but don't address these specific underlying problems.
The results are that students seldom reach their potential but struggle with excessive effort, lose motivation and self esteem and too often become labeled as lazy, stupid or unmotivated - resulting symptoms of unidentified learning issues!
Learning disabled children whose symptoms are not addressed become learning disabled adults. These difficulties limit their vocational and work options and earning power as an adult!
